Paint / Lamination ready grade cylinders

The standard cylinder configuration is a 6 ply, which has a nominal wall thickness of 5/16″. Thicker walls are available for many diameters; smaller diameters up to 8 ply and the larger diameter up to 12 plys. A 12 ply has a nominal wall thickness of about 9/16″. The 6 ply are considered the industry standard for most table base applications. For situations where a heavy top is specified, we can add plys to increase the wall thickness and structural integrity.

Grade-A finish exterior and interior options

We offer a range of fancy-face veneer options. These include Maple, Cherry, Walnut, Red and White Oak and Mahogany. Other species are available as special-order. Customers may also supply their own faces. This comes in handy when the cylinders need to match other items in a furniture group. Finish-grade veneers can be on the outside and/or the inside as required by the customer. Furniture cylinders typically have plain sliced faces with a vertical grain orientation. Other cuts/grain directions are possible and are quoted as requested. Standard veneers are plain sliced / flat cut and Oak veneers are also available in a rift cut.

Value added options

End caps made from ¾” PB or MDF are available. Caps are typically installed flush; either by us or shipped loose for installation later in the finish process. Cylinders with flush caps would have a rabbet machined into the end that the caps are fit to. This serves to set the depth and seat them. The depth of the rabbet can be adjusted which means the caps can be flush, proud or recessed. Caps can have hole patterns as needed and are by customer request. 3/8” MDF caps are also available for applications where the caps are more decorative.

Access doors and wire manager cut-outs are available. Doors have hinge pins and magnetic touch latches and can be located just about anywhere on the cylinder. (We recommend they be placed no closer than 2” from either end.) Standard sizes for doors are 8” x 8” or 10” x 10”. Wire manager cut-outs are often referred to as “mouse holes” and are cut into the edge. Wire manage cut-outs can be added to straight cylinders and cylinders with caps.

Half Rounds

We also offer ½ rounds. These have a ¾” flat with a matching veneer installed over the open end and are used primarily for conference table or desk pedestals. ½ rounds do need to be ordered in quantities that are even increments.
